Why create a new translation and publishing agency when so many already exist?

I know the industry well and have seen a real difference in the quality of translation between self-publishing and traditional publishing companies. Unfortunately, in the self-publishing industry, the quality leaves a lot to be desired. So I wanted to create my own translation and publishing company in order to guarantee the authors who will entrust me their book a level of quality equivalent to that offered by large traditional publishing houses.

What explains this difference in quality?

In order to attract as many authors as possible who wish to expand overseas, translation companies offer extremely low prices – prices that trickle down to the rest of the production chain. Translators and proofreaders are inexperienced and poorly paid. It's like entrusting the renovation of a house to Week-end Mr. Fix-it!

How can Les Éditions du Coq noir make the difference?

1. By offering reasonable but fair prices. While offering reasonable rates, we want everyone, and especially translators and proofreaders, to be paid in a way that allows them to do their jobs well.

2. By using experienced translators. We work with translators whom we know perfectly well and in whom we have full confidence. These translators are experienced and have a perfect command of the French language and of the art of translation.

3. By providing three proofreading stages. We have our translations proofread by three proofreaders. Little tip… The third proofreader is my mother: she is a killer!:)

What about your publishing services...?

Usually, the authors who contact us are already self-published in English and therefore already know how to proceed. However, for authors who wish, we offer self-publishing services and take care of all the steps. In particular, the choice of coverage may be important ... Indeed, the culture of the image is different from one country to another and an attractive coverage in the United States, in England or in Australia, will not necessarily be so attractive in France, Belgium, or Switzerland.

Our strengths can be summed up in three words: excellence, reliability and responsiveness.

Okay… But what about your rates?

We do not plan to increase the rates generally offered by our competitors. But we are convinced that the authors and / or their agents, will know how to choose quality and will agree to pay a reasonable price allowing everyone to work with passion and deliver excellence.
